Hollis is a town located in Southern New Hampshire in the Merrimack Valley Region of the state. It is situated in Southern Hillsborough County and encompasses a total area of 32.3 square miles, only .6 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Hollis was home to 7,684 people.

The land that comprises Hollis was first settled in 1731 by Captain Peter Powers and his family. Over time, Powers became a notable surveyor and eventually added 1,500 acres to the Northern part of town. Hollis was officially incorporated in 1746 and, at the time, was called "Holles," after the Duke of Newcastle. It wasn't until 1775 that the town began to be known as "Hollis."

Less than 2 percent of Hollis is made up of water. The town includes parts of the Nashua River and Nissitissit River, and it lies completely within the Merrimack River watershed. Its highest point lies at Birch Hill, where elevation reached 821 feet above sea level. Surrounding towns include Milford, Brookline, Amherst, Merrimack, Nashua, and several Massachusetts communities.

Hollis is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boasts a full-time police department, a municipal fire department and municipal emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Source Electronics, Puritan Press Inc., Jennings Excavation, Diamond Casting & Machine, Hollis Line Machine and Morins Landscaping.

Children in the area attend Hollis Primary School and Hollis Upper Elementary School for grades kindergarten through sixth. For grades seven through 12, students attend schools in the Hollis/Brookline Cooperative School District. For recreation and entertainment, residents of Hollis can take advantage of the town's golf courses, tennis courts, youth sports leagues, fishing and hunting areas, snowmobile and bicycle trails, cross country skiing and local beaches. The town also boasts its own recreation commission
