Moultonborough is a town located in Eastern New Hampshire in the Lakes region of the state. It is situated in the Southwestern part of Carroll County and encompasses a total area of 74.6 square miles, 15.1 of which is water. As of the 2010 United State Census, Moultonborough was home to 4,044 residents.

Moultonborough's first settlers hailed from Hampton, many of whom were part of the Moulton family, hence the town?s name. In 1763, Governor Benning Wentworth granted Moultonborough's charter, and in 1777, the town was officially incorporated.

More than 20 percent of Moultonborough's total area is made up of water. The town is home to Lake Winnipesaukee, Moultonborough Bay and Lake Kanasatka. The area's highest point is located at Red Hill, where elevation reaches 2,990 feet above sea level. Red Hill is a part of the Ossipee Mountains, which run through Moultonborough. Over the years, Moultonborough has been home to many notable residents, including poet Robert Frost, actor Claude Rains and poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Moultonborough is also home to Castle in the Clouds, an early 1900s-era estate and popular tourist attraction.

The town of Moultonborough is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, a full-time fire chief, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Penta Corporation, Sabanek, Meredith Village Savings Bank, Elan Publishing and Laconia Savings Bank. Children in the area attend schools in the Moultonborough School District, which includes one school for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and another for ninth through 12th grades.
