Nottingham is a town located in the Southeastern corner of New Hampshire in the Seacoast region of the state. It is situation in the Northern part of Rockingham County and encompasses a total area of 48.4 square miles, 1.9 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 4,785 residents living the Nottingham.
The town of Nottingham was first incorporated in 1733 by the then-governor John Wentworth. Its name came from the Earl of Nottingham, Daniel Finch, who was a friend of two former New Hampshire governors. At the time of its incorporation, Nottingham included the nearby towns of Deerfield and Northwood and was home to 17 operating watermills. Over the years, many notable people have lived in Nottingham, including U.S. Congressmen Bradbury Cilley and Henry Dearborn, author Else Holmelund Minarik and Revolutionary War general Joseph Cilley.
Nottingham is home to 1.9 square miles of water, or approximately 4.01 percent of the town?s area. There are 14 lakes and ponds in the areas, as well as parts of Pawtuckaway River, North River and Black River. The highest point in Nottingham is located at Mount Pawtuckaway, where the elevation reaches 995 feet at its highest peak (North Peak.)
The town of Nottingham is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, a municipal fire department and municipal emergency medical services. The biggest employers in the area include Custom Welding & Fabrications Inc., Fernald Lumber, the Town of Nottingham, Nottingham School, O.R. Gooch & Son Inc., Log Home Hardware and Liars Paradise.
Children in the area attend school at Nottingham Elementary School for kindergarten through eighth grade. For grades nine through 12, the town of Nottingham pays tuition for local children to attend Dover High School, located in the nearby town of Dover, or Coe-Brown Academy, in nearby Northwood.
