Unity NH Real Estate

Unity is a town located in Western New Hampshire in the Dartmouth/Sunapee region of the state. It is situated in the central part of Sullivan County and encompasses a total area of 37.2 square miles, .2 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Unity was home to 1,671 people.

The land that comprises Unity was first granted in 1753. At the time, it was known as Buckingham, in honor of the first Earl of Buckinghamshire, John Hobart. In 1764, the area was officially incorporated as a town, taking on the name Unity. At the town?s first census in 1790, Unity had 538 residents.

Less than 1 percent of Unity’s total area is made up of water. The town is home to the Little Sugar River, as well as several villages, including East Unity, Quaker City and West Unity. Its highest point lies at a summit on the northern border, where elevation reaches 2,011 feet above sea level. The town is served by Interstate 91, and the nearest airport with schedule service is Lebanon Municipal, located about 32 miles away in Lebanon.

Unity is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It uses the Sullivan County Sherriff’s Department for policing, and employs a volunteer fire department as well as volunteer emergency medical services. Children in the area attend Unity Elementary School for grades kindergarten through eighth. For grades nine through 12, they attend schools in the School Administrative Unit #6, which also serves the nearby towns of Claremont and Cornish.

For recreational purposes, residents of Unity can enjoy the town’s various fishing and hunting areas, as well as snowmobile trails. It is also in close proximity to the King Ridge and Mount Sunapee ski areas. Unity also offers a free public library, which is open four days a week.
