At 435 square miles in size, Lake Champlain is the largest lake in New England. It’s located between the northern New York and Vermont border and has 587 miles of shoreline with 71 islands. Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, is located on the eastern shores and is a great home base for exploring the region. More than 50 beaches and several state parks dot its borders. Montreal is about an hour’s drive to the north, New York City is five hours to the south and Boston is 3½ hours to the southeast.
