Auburn is a town located in Southeastern New Hampshire in the Merrimack Valley region of the state. It is situated in the Western part of Rockingham County and encompasses a total area of 4,953 square miles, 33.5 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Auburn was home to 4,953 people.

In its early years, the land that made now comprises Auburn was first settled by Native Americans called Massabesic. In 1720, British settlers began to arrive in the area. When the French and Indian War ensure, Massabesic was destroyed and the area was claimed by the nearby town of Chester, taking on the name Chester Woods, Chester West Parish, Long Meadow and, finally, Auburn. In 1845 Auburn was separated and incorporated as its own town.

More than 12 percent of Auburn's total area is made up of water. The town includes Massabesic Lake, Sucker Brook, Tower Hill Pond, Clark Pond, Little Massebesic Lake, Cohas Brook and Merrimack River. Its highest points are located a Mount Miner, Mine Hill and Mount Misery, where elevation reaches 580 feet above sea level or higher.

Auburn is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boasts a full-time police department, a full-time and volunteer fire department and full-time and volunteer emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Maine Drilling & Blasting, Builders Insulation Company, Heritage Plumbing & Heating, Daniels Equipment, Green Mountain Explosive, ARC Inc., NH Blacktop Sealers, Pelmac, Town of Auburn and Auburn Village School.

Children in the area attend the Auburn Village School for grades kindergarten through eighth. For ninth through 12th grades, they can attend either Manchester Memorial High School or Pinkerton Academy. Auburn is home to a number of annual events, including the Yacht Sail Boating Club Race, the Lake Massebesic Duck Race and the Griffin Free Public Library Book Sale.
