Claremont is a city located in Western New Hampshire in the Dartmouth/Sunapee region of the state. It is situated in the Western part of Sullivan County and encompasses a total area of 44.1 square miles, one of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Claremont was home to 13,355 people.

The land that comprises Claremont was first granted and incorporated as a town in 1764 by Governor Benning Wentworth. It was named in honor of the Claremont mansion, where Thomas Pelham-Holles, Earl of Clare, lived. In its early years, Claremont saw much success in milling, especially during the Industrial Revolution period. In 1947, the town was incorporated into a city, one of the few in New Hampshire.

Just more than 2 percent of Claremont’s total area is made up of water. The city includes parts of the Connecticut River and the Sugar River, and it lies completely within the Connecticut River watershed. Its highest point is located at Green Mountain, where elevation reaches 2,018 feet above sea level. Claremont is home to the Claremont Municipal Airport and is served by Interstate 91 and New Hampshire Routes 11, 12, 12A, 103 and 120.

Claremont is governed by an elected mayor, assistant mayor and city council. It boasts a full-time police department, a full-time fire department and municipal emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Valley Regional Health Care, Claremont School District, Wal-mart, City of Claremont, Red River Computers, Crown Point Cabinetry, National Field Representatives, Claremont Savings Banks, Structal-Bridges and Pathways.

Children in the area attend schools in the Claremont School District.
