East Kingston New Hampshire Homes For Sale

East Kingston is a town that is located in the Southeastern corner of New Hampshire, within the Seacoast region of the state. The town is situated in Southern Rockingham County and encompasses a total area of 10.1 square miles, of which 10 square miles is land. The remaining .1 square miles is water, accounting for only .6 percent of the city's area. As of 2010, the town's population was 2,357.

The town was first incorporated in the year 1738 after a petition from the land?s residents. The area was originally a section of Kingston called Kingston East Parish. The citizens decided to petition Governor Jonathan Belcher of Massachusetts for a new, separate charter, so they could create local schools and places of worship that were closer than those in Kingston. When the new charter was granted in 1738, the boundary line remained unclear between Kingston and East Kingston and became the topic of much dispute.

East Kingston is a comprised of over 99 percent land, is drained by the Powwow River and Great Brook and rests within both the Piscataqua River watershed and the Merrimack River watershed. The town's highest point is located at Morse Hill, where the elevation reaches 315 feet.

The town is governed by an elected board of selectmen. Children in the area attend East Kingston Elementary School until the fifth grade, after which they transfer to Cooperative Middle School in Stratham and then eventually join Exeter High School in the nearby town of Exeter. East Kingston has four full-time police officers, a municipal fire department and municipal emergency medical services. The biggest employer in the area is Monahan's Farm, and the town boasts a number of recreational attractions, including a YMCA branch, golf courses, youth organizations, a plethora of youth sports opportunities, snowmobile trails and bicycle paths. The city is noted to be the hometown of Ebenezer Webster, a militia colonel during the American Revolution.
