Mont Vernon is a town located in Southern New Hampshire in the Merrimack Valley region of the state. It is situated in the central part of Hillsborough County and encompasses a total area of 16.7 square miles, just .1 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Mont Vernon was home to 2,409 people.

Originally a part of Amherst, Mont Vernon broke away and was incorporated as its own town in 1803. Years later, parts of Lyndeborough were also added to the town. Though the town was originally settled for agricultural purposes, it became mostly a tourist attraction by the late 1800s. Mont Vernon was home to five large hotels at the time, including the Grand Hotel. The hotel was destroyed in a fire in 1930.

Less than 1 percent of Mont Vernon's total land area is made up of water. The town is home to Beaver Brook, Horton Pond, Purgatory Brook, Purgatory Falls and Caesar's Brook, and its highest point lies at Storey Hill, where elevation reaches 1,015 feet above sea level. Mont Vernon is served by New Hampshire Route 13 and Interstate 293 and is 19 miles from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

Mont Vernon is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, an on-call fire department and private emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Information Unlimited Inc. and Mont Vernon Design. Children in the area attend the Mont Vernon Village School for grades kindergarten through six. For seventh and eighth grades, students attend Amherst Middle School in the nearby town of Amherst. For ninth through 12th grades, they go to Souhegan High School, also in Amherst.

For recreation and entertainment, Mont Vernon residents can take advantage of the town's museums, youth organizations, sports leagues and fishing and hunting areas. The town is also in close proximity to the McIntyre, Pat's Peak and Crotched Mountain ski resorts.
