Newton is a town located in the Southeastern corner of New Hampshire in the Seacoast region of the state. It is situated in Southern Rockingham County and encompasses a total area of 10.1 square miles, all but .2 of which is land. As of the 2010 United States Census, Newton was home to 4,603 residents.

The area that makes up Newton was a part of the Masonian land purchase of 1746. It was the sixth town to be granted from this purchase and was originally a part of Amesbury, Massachusetts. It later became part of Amesbury's West Parish, New Town and, finally South Hampton. In 1749, the town was finally incorporated as its own town by Governor Benning Wentworth.

Newton is made up in majority by land, though there is a small portion of water in the area. The town's highest point is located at Brandy Brow Hill, where elevation reaches 289 feet about sea level. Newtown has several villages located within the town, including Newton Junction, Rowes Corner, Sargent Corners and Crane Crossing. Over the years, Newton has been home to a number of notable people, including Boston Bruins center Mark Mowers and Major League Baseball player and coach Mike Ryan. The town also boasts a variety of well-known sites, including the Marshall House, the Historical Museum, and the Village Primary School.

The town of Newton is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, a part-time fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. The area's biggest employers include Ravensburger-FX Schmid USA, Continental Biomass Inc, Pro Design, Newton Greenhouse and the Town of Newton. Children in the area attend schools in the Sanborn Regional School District, which also serves the nearby town of Kingston. For recreation and entertainment, Newton residents can take advantage of the area's municipal parks, tennis courts, youth sports and organizations, campgrounds, fishing and hunting areas, marinas, bicycle trails, cross country skiing areas and local beaches.
