Sandwich is a town located in Eastern New Hampshire in the Lakes region of the state. It is situated in the Western part of Carroll County and encompasses a total area of 93.5 square miles, 3.2 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Sandwich was home to 1,326 people.

Sandwich was first chartered by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1763. Because the area was considered highly inaccessible, the land grant was enlarged; now, it is one of the biggest towns (in terms of area) in the state. Sandwich gleaned its named from the fourth Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu. The town?s population swelled in the early 1800s, reaching 2,700 by 1830. By the close of the century, many of its residents had moved to larger cities to the west, and the population began to dwindle.

Just 3 percent of Sandwich's total area is made up of water. It is home to parts of the Bearcamp River, Cold River, Beebe River, Squam Lake and Red Hill River. Its highest point is located at Sandwich Mountain, where elevation reaches 3,993 feet about sea level. Sandwich Mountain, also called Sandwich Dome, is a part of the Squam Mountains which run through the town.

Sandwich is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boasts a full-time police department, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include the Town of Sandwich, Corner House Inn, Mocha Rizing, Sandwich Home Industries and Sandwich Central School.

Children in the area attend schools in the Inter-Lakes Cooperative School District, which also serves the nearby towns of Center Harbor and Meredith. For recreation and entertainment, Sandwich residents can take advantage of the town's municipal parks, tennis courts, museums, youth organizations, sports leagues, fishing and hunting areas, snowmobile trails, cross country skiing and local beaches.
