Tamworth is a town located in Eastern New Hampshire in the Lakes region of the state. It is situated in the Central part of Carroll County and encompasses a total area of 60.7 square miles, just 1 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Tamworth was home to 2,856 people.

Tamworth was originally granted by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1766 and named for Viscount Tamworth, a British admiral. The town?s village of Whittier was named for the well-known poet John Greeleaf Whittier. Over the years, Tamworth has been home to many notable people, including former President of the United States Grover Cleveland and famous psychologist William James. Tamworth is also home to the oldest professional theater venue in the state, the Barnstormers Theatre.

Less than 2 percent of Tamworth's total area is made up of water. It includes parts of Bearcamp River, Chocorua River, Wonalancet River and Chocorua Lake. Its highest point is located at Black Snout Mountain, where elevation reaches 2,689 feet above sea level. Black Snout Mountain is located within the Ossipee Mountain range, which runs through the southwest corner of Tamworth.

Tamworth is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boats a full-time police department, a full-time fire chief, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. The top employer in the area is the Kenneth A. Brett School, which serves children in grades kindergarten through eighth. For ninth through 12th grades, local children attend Kennett High School, located in the nearby town of Conway.
