Wilmot NH Real Estate

Wilmot is a town located in central New Hampshire in the Dartmouth/Sunapee region of the state. It is situated in the Northern part of Merrimack County and encompasses a total area of 29.8 square miles, .2 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Wilmot was home to 1,358 people.

Most of the land that comprises what is now Wilmot comes from a 1775 grant to Jonas Minot and Matthew Thornton. The town was formed from parts of New London and Kearsarge Gore. It was officially incorporated in 1807 and named Wilmot, in honor of Dr. James Wilmot, an English clergyman and scholar.

Less than 1 percent of Wilmot’s total area is made up of water. It is home to Blackwater River and Kimpton Brook. Wilmot is also home to Winslow State Park and Mount Kearsarge, where elevation reaches 2,931 feet above sea level ? the highest point in the town. Highways serving the area include New Hampshire Route 4A, New Hampshire Route 11 and Interstate 89.

Wilmot is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boasts a full-time police department, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. The town also boasts the Wilmot Bandstand, an Old Home Celebration and a community association. It is also in close proximity to the Ragged Mountain and Mount Sunapee ski areas.
